I hope everyone had a great holiday time with family and friends. Welcome back!
Just a note about the Snowmen At Night holiday gifts. Although these were burned on DVD's, they may not play in ALL DVD players. They will play in your computer, however. I hope you will treasure these and look back in 10-15-20 years to hear their sweet young voices read Snowmen at Night and see their drawings that they illustrated to go along with their reading.
We began the day with Jason reading a book for us. Thanks, Jason!
Our reading lesson today was a review of what Readers Workshop looks and sounds like. We made a class anchor chart and then spent time practicing. We then discussed what we learned about ourselves as readers.
We then went with Mrs. Nichols and Mrs. Fishkins class to review cool tool rotations: Cafeteria Behavior (Take a seat and eat), Recess dismissal (Zip, Zap, Zoom) and Bus Arrival and Dismissal (Enjoy the Ride).
After lunch and recess, I read Jan Brett's book The Mitten. We learned that we can stand on her shoulders and write books just like hers. We discussed different writing ideas and learned that ideas are the basis for all writing. All writing begins with a great idea.
During math, 1st graders learned about exchanging dimes. 2nd graders learned about the change to more diagram and how to use it to help solve problems. Here are a few pictures from math workshop:
