Wednesday Wonders
Yesterday, Klara went to her brother Konstantino's school where the author of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, John Archambault, was visiting. What an exciting day for Klara....I know I wish I could have gone with her! She took our classroom book and he autographed it for our classroom! Thanks for taking our book, Klara....you are ONE LUCKY STUDENT!!!!!
Josh read Frog's Lunch for us today and lead us through the calendar and pledge. GREAT JOB, Josh!
We learned in reading today that as readers, we have to determine what is important in a book/story/writing, and "strain" the unimportant information from the important information. I created the visual image of spaghetti noodles: when you serve the noodles, you don't serve it with the water that they were boiled in. You pour it through a strainer so that all that is left is the important part: the noodles. We read the book, The Empty Pot, and then practiced "straining" the important information from the unimportant.
In math workshop, 1st graders worked on polygons and even made their very own. While they were working on math, 2nd graders went to the computer lab to take their reading MAP. (GREAT JOB 2nd graders!!!)
In writing, we learned about the strategy of show, don't tell, in writing. We then wrote our own poems using the strategy.
The rest of the day was spent practicing our readers' theaters. We will begin our performance tomorrow at 1:00. Time will be tight...so be one time! After our performance, students will be available to talk to you about the biographies they wrote.
Tomorrow we also will go to art, as it is a Friday Switch Day.
